MAYNARD — The Select Board announces that Deputy Police Chief Christopher Troiano has been appointed as Police Chief, following the retirement of Chief Michael Noble.
Following eight years of service with the United States Army National Guard as a Squad Leader Sergeant, Troiano joined the Concord Police Department as a patrolman in 1997. He remained with Concord Police for 23 years, eventually rising to the rank of Lieutenant.
In 2020, Troiano was appointed as Deputy Chief in Maynard.
In his five years serving the Maynard community, Troiano has collaborated with Chief Noble and Department members to enhance the Department and strengthen its commitment to community-based policing.
His day-to-day duties have included directing and supervising departmental operations, allocating resources to maximize departmental efficiency, building strong community relationships, coordinating response efforts and clear communication between agencies in high-stakes emergencies and promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
He holds a Master’s degree in Terrorism and Counterterrorism Operations and a Master of Science Certificate in Local Leadership for Public Safety.
Troiano has embraced professional development, completing Harvard’s National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, the FBI National Academy and the Senior Management Institute for Police Executive Research Forum.
He also acts as Accreditation Manager, ensuring that the Department is meeting and maintaining the highest standards of law enforcement.
“Maynard is a fortunate community as we have an outstanding Deputy Chief, Christopher Troiano, who is ready to take on the reins as Chief upon my retirement. Deputy Chief Troiano’s resume is stellar, and the success of the Police Department couldn’t have been accomplished without his steady leadership,” said Chief Noble.
Chief Noble retired on March 4 following 30 years of unwavering service to the Maynard community. During his tenure, the Department’s accomplishments included a concentrated commitment to mental health initiatives, enhancements to trainings and resources, adapting to police reform and the social justice movement, navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and introducing new innovative technologies, among much else.
“Working with Chief Noble has been an invaluable experience. His leadership, professionalism, and dedication to both the department and the community set a high standard for everyone around him,” said Troiano. “He always led with integrity, and has reinforced the importance of service, accountability, and teamwork in law enforcement. It has been an honor to work alongside him.”
The Select Board formally appointed Deputy Chief Troiano as Chief of Police during a ceremony on Tuesday, March 4. He assumes that role on March 5.
“Being the Chief of Police is both an honor and a great responsibility. It means leading with integrity, making decisions that impact not only the Department but the entire community, and ensuring that we uphold the highest standards of professionalism and service,” said Troiano. “It’s about building trust, fostering strong relationships, and ensuring that every officer has the support and guidance they need to succeed.”
