WOBURN — Principal Carl Nelson is pleased to share that Kennedy Middle School continued its participation in the Pulsera Project, raising almost $1,500 to support artists living in Central America.
The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that educates, empowers, and connects Central American artists with students in more than 3,600 U.S. schools through the sale of colorful hand-woven bracelets, or “pulseras” in Spanish.
The organization’s partnerships aim to brighten U.S. schools with art and compelling cultural education while employing Guatemalan and Nicaraguan artisans and investing proceeds to create lasting change in their communities.
In Kennedy Middle School’s 11-year partnership with the Pulsera Project, nearly $20,000 has been raised and donated to Central American artisans and funds for scholarships, secondary education programs, human rights issues, environmental projects, youth shelters, and social enterprises.
The Pulsera Project sent Kennedy Middle School everything it needed to successfully sell pulseras, including a vibrant trifold photo display, informational and educational materials, videos, customizable posters, a few hundred pulseras, and some handwoven purses made by the organization’s artisan partners.
Each pulsera comes tagged with the photo and signature of the artist who made it, making it easy for buyers to feel a connection to the people they’re supporting.
The Kennedy Middle School community raised about $1,500 in sales, continuing the fundraiser’s great success in Woburn.
Principal Nelson would like to recognize Kennedy Middle School educators Rachel Cuniberti and Tony Bartone for organizing this initiative.
“We are proud to bring this incredible initiative back into our schools,” said Principal Nelson. “Our partnership with the Pulsera Project has been incredibly meaningful, allowing our community to support those who are less fortunate while providing students with an understanding of different cultures and the lives others lead.”
