Kearsarge Regional High School to Launch New Hands-on Kit Car Building Program

NEW LONDON — Superintendent John Fortney and Principal Charles Langille are excited to announce that Kearsarge Regional High School is launching a brand-new program: Hands-on Kit Car Building.

As part of KRHS’s commitment to career and technical education, the new Hands-on Kit Car Building Program will provide students with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in automotive engineering, mechanics, and design while building a fully functional car from start to finish. Students will develop critical skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and mechanical engineering while gaining insight into potential career paths in automotive design, engineering, and manufacturing.

After the initial build, the completed vehicle will be sold to the public and proceeds will be reinvested into the program to fund future builds and expand opportunities for students. This self-sustaining model ensures that the program can grow and provide real-world learning experiences for years to come.

The kit car will be a Shelby Cobra replica that will be purchased from Factory Five Racing, which is based out of Wareham, Mass.

The program will be officially offered during the start of the 2025-2026 school year to students in Grades 10-12. Enrollment is limited and interested students are encouraged to apply early.

“This new program will allow students to expand their knowledge about engineering and mechanics,” said Superintendent Fortney. “I am proud that we were able to bring a program like this to Kearsarge in what is sure to be a memorable and interactive educational experience for all our students.”

To fund the program’s startup costs, KRHS is seeking support through outside sponsors, grants, and private funding.

KRHS welcomes support from local businesses, automotive enthusiasts, and community members who wish to contribute through sponsorships or donations. For additional questions about the program including how to support through donations or volunteering are asked to contact Jesse Fenn at jfenn@kearsarge.org.
