NEW LONDON — Superintendent John Fortney and Athletic Director Taylor Lipinski wish to recognize the alpine skiing and indoor track programs for their achievements so far this athletic season.
On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Boys Alpine Ski Team won the NHIAA Division III state championship. Three Kearsarge students, Alex Spinney, Leo Mann and Sam Mann will advance to compete in the Meet of Champions on Saturday, March 1, at Pinkerton Academy.
The boys were escorted back to school following their win by the Sutton, Wilmot, and New London Police and Fire Departments.
In addition to a successful high school season for Kearsarge’s alpine skiing program, student-athletes have made significant achievements at the middle school level.
On Wednesday, Feb. 12, about 30 student-athletes on the Kearsarge Regional Middle School alpine skiing team claimed first place at the annual Red Parka Pub Junior Championship Cup. The event attracts middle school skiing teams from across the Granite State, providing an opportunity for younger skiers to compete as they prepare to advance to the high school level.
The KRHS indoor track program has also had a successful start to its season, with multiple student-athletes obtaining school records.
Lexi Shaughnessy, Riley Raynes, Javiera Eliessetch, and Juliet Faria recently set the school record for the 4×200 relay race, running a time of 1:57.53.
Daniel Dalbec also broke a school and personal record during the 1500-meter run, running the race in 4:10.94 and claiming the Division II title. Dalbec will represent KRHS at the 37th New England Indoor Track and Field event on March 1 in Boston, MA.
“We are pleased to see our student-athletes achieve success this season,” said Lipinski. “These feats are not just a testament to the athletic ability of our student-athletes, but also the commitment, effort and passion of our student-athletes, coaches and everyone else involved in athletics.”
“I would like to congratulate these student-athletes and coaches for their tremendous accomplishments this season,” said Superintendent Fortney. “Every single student-athlete in our district has committed themselves to growing as students, athletes, teammates and leaders, and moments like these where we see their passion come to fruition are extremely rewarding. I am eager to see what they accomplish in the future.”
