LITTLETON — Superintendent Dr. Kelly Clenchy, Principal Michelle Kane and Assistant Principal Rebecca Deacon share that student continued their efforts in “Showing H.E.A.R.T.” during a special celebration on Valentine’s Day.
On Friday, Feb. 14, students participated in Shaker Lane’s February Spirit Day: H.E.A.R.T. Day. The celebration fell on Valentine’s Day, making it even more special.
The day was focused on love, compassion, kindness and showing H.E.A.R.T. — Honesty, Effort, Acceptance, Respect and Taking Responsibility. Students were encouraged to wear hearts, make hearts for others, create pictures/murals with hearts, etc. to show the importance of spreading love and kindness to others.
Some of the students’ creations were given as gifts to various service providers and teachers throughout the school. One student even created a Valentine’s Day card for Principal Kane, showing that the kids connect Valentine’s Day to the school’s motto of “Showing H.E.A.R.T.”
Shaker Lane is committed to promoting a caring and respectful environment that enhances students’ self-esteem and social skills. Each month, Shaker Lane School holds an all-school community meeting where students and staff focus on H.E.A.R.T.
Through direct teaching and modeling, along with constant visual and verbal reminders throughout the school community, Shaker Lane’s administration hopes these core values become embedded in the school’s culture. H.E.A.R.T. sets high expectations for learning and behavior for both students and faculty.
