Burlington Police Department Promotes Two Detectives to Sergeant

BURLINGTON — Chief Thomas Browne is pleased to share that the Burlington Police Department promoted two detectives to sergeant in a ceremony held on Monday night.

BURLINGTON — Chief Thomas Browne is pleased to share that the Burlington Police Department promoted two detectives to sergeant in a ceremony held on Monday night. 

Detectives Patrick Lyons and Christopher Kelly were both promoted from Detective to Sergeant.

Sgt. Lyons grew up in Burlington and graduated from Westfield State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. 

He served with the Laconia, N.H. Police Department from 2013 to 2014, with the Boston University Police Department from 2014 to 2015, and joined Burlington Police in 2015. 

Sgt. Lyons served as a patrolman, field training officer, traffic safety officer, detective, and youth services detective during his time with Burlington Police. 

Sgt. Kelly grew up in Watertown and graduated from UMass Lowell with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He is now working toward a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of New Haven. 

Sgt. Kelly worked for UMass Lowell EMS from 2009 to 2012, and served with the Nantucket Police Department from 2013 to 2021. Sgt. Kelly joined Burlington Police in 2021. 

He has worked as a patrolman, a field training officer, a traffic safety officer, an assistant technology officer, a system administrator for the records management system, and as a technology detective. 

“Both Patrick and Chris served the department professionally as patrolmen and detectives, and I am confident they will meet our community’s expectations and earn our community’s trust as supervisors,” said Chief Browne. “I’d like to offer my congratulations to both of these men.”
