BLACKSTONE — The following is a statement from Blackstone-Millville Regional School District Superintendent Jason DeFalco and Blackstone Police Chief Gregory Gilmore.

“Earlier tonight (Thursday), Millville Police received a report from a Blackstone-Millville Regional High School student about a threat made against them and the high school over social media. Immediately, Millville Police and Blackstone Police initiated an investigation into the incident.

Out of an abundance of caution, Blackstone-Millville Regional High School will be closed Friday, Jan. 31. While the threat does not appear to be credible, we are closing the high school so the police departments can continue their investigation.

The middle and elementary schools will remain open, albeit with an increased police presence. Please know, however, that the schools weren’t mentioned in the threat.

Our first and foremost concern is for the safety of our students. This is an extreme step, but it’s taken with your children in mind. We will provide updates as the investigation continues.”
