CONCORD — Chief Thomas Judge reports that the Concord Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at a three-story duplex on Monday morning.
On Monday, Jan. 6, Concord Fire was dispatched to 1346 Main St. after an occupant reported smelling smoke in the building, and the residence’s smoke detectors were activated.
Fire personnel arrived on scene to find a three-story duplex with smoke coming from the second floor.
Responding crews quickly entered the unit where the smoke was seen and located a fire in the second-floor bathroom.
Firefighters then observed that the fire had extended to the third floor and into the adjacent unit, and a second alarm was struck to bring additional resources to the scene.
Firefighters were able to control the fire by about 7:30 a.m. Crews remained on scene for a few hours to fully extinguish the flames and conduct an investigation.
There were a total of four occupants and one dog between the two units. Concord Police assisted in evacuating one occupant. The rest were able to evacuate on their own.
One occupant sustained injuries believed to be minor during the incident that did not require them to be transported to a hospital. There were no other injuries.
All of the occupants are currently displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The Concord Council on Aging also assisted with providing shelter during the fire.
Mutual aid was provided by the Acton, Maynard, Lincoln, Bedford, Sudbury, and Lexington Fire Departments and Pro-EMS. The Hanscom Air Force Base and Boxborough Fire Department provided station coverage. Members of the Concord Water and Public Works Departments also responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Concord Fire Department and the District 14 Fire Investigation Team.
