Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Hiring Event

  • WHEN: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 13, 2025
  • WHERE: Bridgewater Public Library

Positions include Full and Part-Time Direct Care, Internships & Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN).

The posted positions are available in Brockton, Taunton, Hanover, New Bedford, Fall River, Cape Cod, and other surrounding towns.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

An Evening with Author Stephanie Gayle

Bridgewater Public Library will host an event with Author Stephanie Gayle, who will be reading from her latest work. The author will also host a discussion on her writing process and experiences in the literary world, a Q&A session with the audience, and sign copies of her books.

About Stephanie Gayle

Stephanie Gayle is a Pushcart Prize-nominated author known for her compelling storytelling and richly developed characters. She has served as President of the National Board of Sisters in Crime and is an accounting officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). A graduate of the Novel Incubator program at Boston’s Grub Street, Gayle has made significant contributions to contemporary fiction.

Stephanie Gayle’s notable works include:

Celebrate Chinese New Year

Celebrate Chinese New Year at the Bridgewater Public Library during this free, family-friendly event. Everyone is welcome.

  • WHEN: 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025
  • WHERE: Bridgewater Public Library

The inaugural Bridgewater Public Library Chinese New Year celebration will feature a lion dance demonstration by Tiger Crane Kung Fu & Tai Chi, followed by a martial arts demonstration with Bridgewater Martial Arts. All ages are welcome. Kids can take home a Chinese lantern — first come, first serve.

An Evening with Best-Selling Author

Join the Bridgewater Public Library for an afternoon with author and naturalist Sy Montgomery and illustrator Matt Patterson. They’ll discuss their recent book collaborations, “Of Time and Turtles” and the Robert F. Siebert Honor Award book, “The Book of Turtles.”

  • WHEN: 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025 (In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025.)
  • WHERE: Moakley Auditorium, Bridgewater State University, 100 Burrill Ave., Bridgewater

The event will feature a book discussion and Q&A, followed by a meet and greet and book signing with Montgomery and Patterson. The local bookstore An Unlikely Story will be on-site, and copies of their book will be available for purchase.

Free event parking will be available at the Moakley Center Lot, 100 Burrill Ave. This event is free to attend, and no registration is required. It is open to people of all ages.

To research her books, films, and articles, Sy Montgomery has been chased by a silverback gorilla, embraced by a Giant Pacific Octopus, and undressed by an orangutan. But she is perhaps best known for her 14-year love affair with Christopher Hogwood, a runt piglet who grew to a 750-pound great Buddha master.
