MEDFIELD — Superintendent Jeffrey J. Marsden and Thomas Blake Middle School Principal Nat Vaughn are pleased to share that students hosted a successful holiday dinner and donation drive last week for the holiday season.
On Thursday, Dec. 12, from 5 to 6 p.m., eighth-grade Thomas Blake Middle School students served turkey pies from Outpost Farm in Holliston to building residents in the community room at Tilden Village.
In addition to turkey pie, mashed potatoes, squash, peas, corn, green beans, cookies, apple and pumpkin pie, cider, and Dunkin’ coffee were also supplied thanks to donations from over 40 Medfield families. Residents were also able to have meals delivered to their apartments via door-to-door service by student servers.
Tilden residents enjoyed their meals while listening to holiday music performed by two violinists, two saxophonists, and seven members of the Thomas Blake Middle School chorus. After dinner, seventh and eighth graders sang holiday carols at various buildings in Tilden Village.
The Class of 2029 at Thomas Blake Middle School collected over $445 in donations to purchase supplies for the dinner and support the Medfield Home Committee as part of the Tilden Service Dinner event.
Additionally, students also collected toiletries and made gift bags for donation to residents at the Thomas Upham House in Medfield, a local facility that provides care and comfort to seniors in the community. The bags were delivered in person on Dec. 19.
“We emphasize the importance of giving back to the community, especially around the holiday season to our Medfield students. We see the kids enjoy making an impact as deeply as our community members enjoy their service,” Principal Vaughn said. “We’d like to recognize eighth grade teachers Ann Marie Fratolillo and Michael Gibbs for coordinating this opportunity. We thank our school families for their support and our students for their passion for community service. I’m so proud of our Thomas Blake students, and loved seeing them give smiles to so many last week.”
