NEWPORT — Chief Travis Bingham reports that the Newport Police Department arrested a woman for Cruelty to a Child among other charges.

FAWN-MARIE HALL, AGE 36, of NEWPORT, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault
  • Cruelty to a Child
  • First Degree Aggravated Domestic
  • Violation of Title 13 VSA

On Friday, Dec. 13 at 12:01 a.m., Newport Police responded to a home in Pleasant Street for a report of two people arguing.

Upon arrival, the officer spoke to several individuals who stated that HALL engaged in an argument with a neighbor and threw an alcoholic beverage at him.

Through their initial investigation, Newport officers learned that HALL allegedly had been forcing a 16-YEAR-OLD JUVENILE to ingest a household detergent, mixed with alcohol, almost daily.  The household detergent is labeled as not to be ingested.

HALL was placed under arrest and transported to Newport Police Station for booking. The Department of Children and Families was immediately notified.

The 16-YEAR-OLD JUVENILE was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and has since been released.

HALL is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon at the Orleans County Criminal Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
