STOW — Chief Michael Sallese and the Stow Police Department are pleased to welcome Bryan McCarthy as its newest Officer.
Officer McCarthy graduated from the Boylston Police Academy’s 34th class on Friday, Dec. 6.
Officer McCarthy is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and worked for the U.S. Department of Defense in Afghanistan. He is continuing his military service with the Massachusetts National Guard.
He is a 2015 graduate of Worcester Technical High School. He is currently attending Fitchburg State University.
The Boylston Police Academy is authorized by the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee. In keeping with mandates established by the landmark 2020 police reform law, the curriculum includes de-escalation training based on new use-of-force policies and regulations.
Student officers also receive uniform training based on best practices related to essential modern-day policing needs, including effective communication skills, victim-centered and trauma-informed incident response, missing persons and human trafficking investigations, mental health-related emergency response, active shooter and hostile event response, patrol duties, and officer safety and wellness.
Upon completion of the Academy, graduates meet all training requirements to be eligible for Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission certification.
“Officer McCarthy has continually shown a passion for serving his community and country, and the dedication and integrity that modern policing requires,” Chief Sallese said. “He already has shown his commitment to Stow by participating in National Night Out and our Stuff-a-Cruiser program. I am sure he will play a vital role in our department in the months and years to come.”
