Dunstable Police Charge Man with OUI After Clipping Officer with Vehicle

DUNSTABLE — Chief Erik Hoar reports that the Dunstable Police Department arrested a Pepperell man on OUI charges after he clipped an officer with his vehicle on Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a Dunstable Police officer working a detail for the Jinglefest event was helping pedestrians cross the street when a pickup truck’s side-view mirror clipped him.

The officer described the vehicle, a grey Dodge pickup truck, to additional Dunstable Police officers who were in the area for the event. The officers, who were on foot, located the vehicle and directed the driver to stop.

The driver was identified as a 30-YEAR-OLD MALE from PEPPERELL. While speaking with the operator, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle.

Officers attempted to remove the 30-YEAR-OLD MALE from the vehicle, and a struggle ensued, leaving an officer with a broken thumb.

The 30-YEAR-OLD MALE was arrested when additional officers arrived at the scene. The 30-YEAR-OLD MALE made threatening statements to officers after being placed in a cruiser.

During the booking process at the police station, the 30-YEAR-OLD MALE continued to act aggressively and belligerently and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The 30-YEAR-OLD MALE of PEPPERELL is being summonsed to Ayer District Court and charged with the following:

  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • OUI Liquor
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Marked Lanes Violation
  • Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Vandalizing Property
  • Threatening to Commit a Crime

Because the suspect is being summonsed and the court has not issued a criminal complaint, his identity cannot be released at this time.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
