Donations to Benefit Boys & Girls Club of Lynn

NAHANT — In 2022, the Nahant Police Department’s Stuff a Cruiser toy drive was so successful police had to empty the cruiser to make room for donations.

In 2023, community members donated so many toys and items that the cruiser had to be emptied several times. It took a convoy of three cruisers to deliver the gifts to the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn.

This year, the Police Department is going big. The 2024 toy drive will collect donations in a Humvee, the Emergency Management Department’s emergency transport vehicle.

“Nahant is a small town with a big heart, but we have been blown away by the incredible outpouring of support these past two years,” Chief Timothy Furlong said. “We feel great that a number of children in the area will have gifts to open during the holidays and thank our residents for their generosity.”

Donations will once again support the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn, which serves more than 1,500 youth ages 5-18 from Lynn, Nahant, and surrounding communities. The Club focuses on education and career development; character and leadership development; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness and recreation activities. It offers programming for children ages 5-13, a Teen Center, an after-school drop-in program, and a summer camp program at Camp Creighton in Middleton.

Gifts will be collected in the Humvee, which is parked in front of the police station, through Dec. 15. Gifts should be new, unwrapped, and appropriate for ages 5-13.  Gift ideas include puzzles and board games; Lego sets, Manga Tiles and slime kits; art sets and painting or sketchbooks; and sporting goods.

The Humvee – along with police cruisers if the Humvee is stuffed – will deliver gifts to the Club before Christmas.
