NEWPORT — Chief Travis Bingham reports that Newport Police arrested a man on multiple charges including grand larceny, after a motor vehicle was stolen and driven across state lines last Thursday.
HAROLD NADEAU JR., AGE 48, of CHARLESTON, VT, was arrested and charged with:
- Aggravated Operation of a Motor Vehicle Without Consent of the Owner
- Grand Larceny
- Operation of a Vehicle After Suspension or Revocation of License
On Thursday, Nov. 7, at about 4:09 p.m., Newport Police responded to a report from an individual stating their truck had been stolen from the area of 199 Coventry St.
After an initial investigation, it was determined that the vehicle, a Gray Ford-250 truck had been stolen. Police were unable to find the vehicle during an initial search but were able to get a description of the vehicle and the suspect, which was distributed to surrounding agencies.
The truck had an estimated $5,000 worth of tools inside of it at the time it was stolen. The truck also had a brand-new fuel tank estimated to cost $1,200.
At approximately 8:36 p.m., Police were notified that the vehicle had been seen in Bethlehem, N.H.
Further investigation revealed that the truck had been stolen by NADEAU, who had been released from a correctional facility earlier that day.
It was also determined that NADEAU‘s license is under indefinite criminal suspension.
A warrant was issued for NADEAU‘s arrest.
On Wednesday, Nov. 13, police in Littleton, N.H. arrested NADEAU without incident.
NADEAU is being held in New Hampshire on $25,000 cash bail pending arraignment.
NADEAU is facing additional charges in Bethlehem.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
