William H. Galvin Middle School Project
The first Special Town Meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m., will focus on the William H. Galvin Middle School Project. The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) requires that school projects be the only article on a Town Meeting warrant.
The article asks residents to vote on whether to authorize borrowing funds for the Town’s share of funding the school project. The total project budget is $241.76 million, and the MSBA is anticipated to reimburse up to a maximum of $74.35 million.
Zoning Articles
A second Special Town Meeting, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., will discuss all the other articles on the warrant, including five zoning articles and five non-zoning articles.
The zoning articles include amendments to current zoning bylaws regarding accessory living spaces; clarifications of dimensional requirements; the deletion of an obsolete provision for carriage houses; and a map update to delineate the Canton Junction Overlay District, which was approved at the 2024 Annual Town Meeting.
Non-zoning Articles
The non-zoning articles include the adoption of procedures to govern the Special Town Meeting; appropriation for a granular media filtration and ancillary treatment system modification to the Neponset Water Treatment Facility; setting the salary of the town clerk; adjusting Fiscal 2025 accounts; and an appropriation to increase the special education reserve account.
