BOURNE — Superintendent Dr. Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou and Principal Dr. Lisa Maguire are pleased to announce that Bourne High School has started a Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society chapter.
Mu Alpha Theta recognizes and honors students who enjoy and excel in mathematics. Students inducted into Mu Alpha Theta demonstrate hard work, dedication to mathematics, and a commitment to academic excellence. Members have the opportunity to participate in math competitions, tutoring programs, and other mathematics-related projects.
Bourne High School’s initial inductees into the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society are Ryan Witkus, Taylor Sage, Addie Dion, Reese Williams, and Melanie Luecke.
To be eligible for the society, students must be in high school between grades 9-12; registered for Mu Alpha Theta through their school; have completed the equivalent of two years of college preparatory math, including algebra and/or geometry, and have completed or are enrolled in a third year of college preparatory math; and have at least a 3.0 math grade point average on the four-point grading scale.
“I am so proud of these students and their math teachers for fostering an environment where intellectual curiosity and hard work are encouraged and celebrated,” Principal Dr. Maguire said. “It is so special to have them as the founding members of our math honor society chapter, and I am so happy about their accomplishments.”
Principal Dr. Maguire wishes to recognize and thank Liza Bar, math teacher and math team advisor, for advocating for math students and spearheading the project of establishing a Mu Alpha Theta chapter at Bourne High School.
This society marks Bourne High School’s third prestigious honor society, following their chapters of the National Honor Society and the Art Honor Society.
“I would like to congratulate our students who have been inducted into the new Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society chapter at Bourne High School,” Superintendent Dr. Quinlan-Zhou said. “This remarkable achievement reflects their hard work, dedication, and passion for mathematics.”
