NEW LONDON — Superintendent John Fortney and Principal Charles Langille are pleased to announce that senior Noah Whipple has been named Kearsarge Regional High School’s (KRHS) Student of the Month for October.
The Student of the Month is selected by Kearsarge faculty from a pool of nominated students. This honor is in recognition of the student’s positive conduct and character, both on and off campus, and is an acknowledgment of the individual’s positive moral character and contributions to the school community.
Whipple, a senior from Bradford, was selected for the honor based on nominations from school staff and faculty. Whipple was recognized for his kindness and leadership abilities.
“Although I don’t currently have Noah in class, he still stops by to say hello as a friendly face to the students I have this year,” said Math Teacher Sarah Millard. “During class, he was always willing to help with math, other courses or general questions. He is a genuinely kind student to teachers, peers and teammates.”
Whipple is a dual-athlete at Kearsarge, participating in varsity basketball and lacrosse. He will act as Captain of the basketball team for the upcoming season.
“Noah is a true leader and does all the little things to help make the team successful. His attitude and work ethic helps set the stage for others to emulate and model, especially with the younger high school and middle school kids in our basketball program,” said Varsity Basketball Coach Nathan Camp. “He comes with a different mindset and outlook, not what’s in it for him, but what’s in it for the team and his teammates. For these reasons and many more, he’s easily one of the greatest captains I’ve had the honor to coach.”
Whipple goes beyond his role as an athlete to serve all of Kearsarge Regional High School athletics. Assistant Principal Christopher Geraghty noted Whipple’s dedication during the process of hiring a new Athletic Director last year.
“Noah was a valued member of last year’s Athletic Director interview committee, providing a perspective that represented the interests of all students. Noah challenged candidates with questions about how their role could benefit the entire school community,” said Geraghty.
Outside of athletics, Whipple is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club. He says Spanish teacher Elizabeth Perez is a teacher who has shaped his experience at KRHS.
“I have really appreciated Senora Perez’s patience and support in learning Spanish. She is understanding of her student’s needs and she’s a positive teacher that works well with students to advance their learning,” said Whipple.
Whipple also recognized Science Teacher Peter Hattan, who helped prepare him for the AP Chemistry exam.
“It was a very tough, but rewarding class in which Mr. Hattan prepared us for the AP Exam and for the challenges I will face in future college courses,” said Whipple. “I had the class with a group of friends and Mr. Hattan enabled us to collaborate in a fun, supportive, and challenging environment.”
Whipple is currently shadowing physical therapy professionals. Whipple’s interest in physical therapy began his sophomore year when he injured his knee. During his recovery, Whipple learned about physical therapy, which made him consider it as a career.
“I like the idea of being involved with athletes and being able to help them make progress toward their goals. It’s a career that I could see myself enjoying because of the variety of ways in which you can help people,” said Whipple.
