ANDOVER — Superintendent John Lavoie is pleased to share that Greater Lawrence Technical School (GLTS) was awarded a $750,000 Skills Capital Grant by the Healey-Driscoll Administration.

Superintendent Lavoie attended a ceremony at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School on Oct. 22, where Secretary of Education Patrick Tutwiler recognized the efforts of all the schools awarded with funding.

The funding will support the expansion of the Auto Collision shop, increasing the size of the learning space to better serve students. A key feature of this upgrade will be the installation of a new high-tech spray booth specifically designed for painting electric and hybrid vehicles.

This state-of-the-art technology addresses these vehicles’ unique challenges, particularly their advanced sensors and battery systems. Traditional paint booths can expose batteries to thermal stress, potentially damaging battery cells and reducing their efficiency and lifespan. The new booth will mitigate these risks, ensuring both safety and quality.

Additionally, the grant will allow GLTS to acquire new CNC lathes and milling machines for its Advanced Manufacturing program, further enhancing students’ learning experience and preparing them for careers in high-demand fields.

“Receiving this award allows us to introduce students to the knowledge, skills and latest technology required to prepare them for employment in the Auto Collision and Advanced Manufacturing industries,” Superintendent Lavoie said. “As always, we are thankful to the Healey-Driscoll administration for their support in helping us stay up to date in purchasing equipment to meet industry demands.”
