NEW LONDON — Superintendent John Fortney is pleased to share that Kearsarge Regional Middle School (KRMS) Grade 7 Science Teacher Robert Henry received the Novice Teacher award from the New Hampshire Science Teacher’s Association (NHSTA).

The Novice Teacher award is given to a science teacher who has done outstanding work in the field of science education within their first five years of teaching.

Recipients of the Novice Teacher award demonstrate enthusiasm, knowledge and passion through leadership. Ideal candidates additionally seek to enhance students’ academic understanding by seeking out field opportunities and providing research-based instruction.

Henry was nominated for the award by fellow Grade 7 Science Teacher Tara Evans. Faculty and staff of the school note Henry’s persistence in furthering his knowledge of Earth Science for the benefit of his students and his commitment to creating a comprehensive educational experience.

Henry has worked within KRSD for four years, beginning as a substitute teacher for the district in 2020 before joining KRMS as a full-time faculty member in 2021.

“I am humbled to have received this award. This award speaks volumes to how well we work as a grade-level team and as a department,” said Henry. “Any skills I have have been honed by other teachers; I am fortunate to have such great colleagues at KRMS and throughout the district.”

Henry was presented with a certificate from the New Hampshire Science Teacher’s Association during the organization’s annual Fall Conference.

“Myself and the rest of KRSD would like to congratulate Mr. Henry on this outstanding achievement,” said Superintendent Fortney. “In just a few years, Mr. Henry has approached education with a curiosity and interest that has had a positive impact on students. We are fortunate to have Mr. Henry working with our students.”
