AVON — Chief David Charest and members of the Avon Fire Department wish to thank the community for supporting the department’s hurricane relief donation drive.

The Avon Fire Department recently hosted a hurricane relief donation drive to support those affected by Hurricane Helene. The department collected donations over several days last week and members of Avon Fire left on Monday morning to drive the supplies to North Carolina.

Chief Charest would like to extend a special thanks to Capt. Julie Burns and Firefighter Christopher Sullivan for organizing the donation drive. Chief Charest would also like to thank the many volunteers who made the effort possible, including Avon Firefighters Local 3857, the Avon Firefighters Relief Association, Dave Stewart of Mass Fire Pics, Joe Pieczek of Hi-Voltage Associates, George’s Garage, Inc., DeZine Land Construction & Care and Enterprise Truck Rental of West Bridgewater.

Thanks to the generous support of community members, the department filled two 26-foot box trucks and two large trailers with donations.

Capt. Burns, Firefighter Sullivan, Firefighter Dave Freeman, Dave Stewart of Mass Fire Pics and Joe Pieczek of Hi-Voltage Associates left with the donations on Monday morning. They received a police escort to the highway from Avon Police and arrived at the Day One Relief distribution center in Burlington, North Carolina, late Tuesday morning.

Day One Relief informed the team from Avon that all items would be dispersed within 24 hours.

Avon Fire collected various donations, including baby supplies, water, nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, pet items and much more.

“This incredible outpouring of support would not have been possible without the extreme generosity of our community. Your generosity and compassion have truly made a difference in the lives of those affected by this devastating disaster,” Chief Charest said. “Our Avon Fire team, volunteers and community came together in such a meaningful way. Your hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. Together, we are making a positive impact and showing that our community stands united in times of crisis.”
