CANTON — Superintendent-Director Jill Rossetti and Principal Geoffrey Zini are pleased to share that Blue Hills Regional Technical School students recently helped the local Canton Cadette Girl Scouts Troop #62436 earn its Cadette Special Agent Badge.

On Oct. 3, the Girl Scouts troop and Troop Leader Christine Leete visited Blue Hills Regional Technical School, where they worked with sophomores and seniors in the Criminal Justice program to earn their Special Agent Badge. The badge requires Girl Scouts to take on the role of a “special agent” by using science and critical thinking skills to investigate a situation.

Throughout the day, Cadette Girl Scouts, who are all in 8th grade, rotated between two criminal justice classrooms, where Blue Hills students and their teachers taught them the science behind criminal investigations. They studied chemistry and its applications to trace evidence, the physics of ballistic and blood spatter evidence and biology through exploring DNA.

While working with the students, the troop studied fingerprints, practiced interviewing skills to understand body language and acted out scenarios to understand the forensic investigative process.

“This visit was an excellent learning opportunity for both the Girl Scouts and the Blue Hills students,” Principal Zini said. “It provided the Girl Scouts with the skills they needed to earn their Special Agent Badge, and offered a chance for them to meet and learn from older students. I know our students enjoyed witnessing moments of shared discovery as the Girl Scouts uncovered clues, and I thank all who were able to help make this opportunity a success.”
