BARNSTABLE — The Barnstable Police Department reports that they arrested and charged a man with possessing and distributing child pornography yesterday.
JOSEPH MADERA, AGE 65, OF HYANNIS, was charged with:
- Possession of Child Pornography
- Dissemination of Visual Material of Child in State of Nudity
MADERA was arraigned at Barnstable District Court on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and has a probable cause hearing scheduled for Nov. 7.
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Barnstable Police detectives, with the assistance of the United States Secret Service Cyber Fraud Task Force, executed a search warrant at MADERA’S Hyannis home in connection with the investigation.
The search warrant was the result of a CyberTip received by the Massachusetts State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that was assigned to a task force officer from the Barnstable Police Department.
The CyberTip provided an address where a person was allegedly distributing child pornography using a digital device in their home. An investigation revealed that person to be MADERA. As a result of a search warrant, at least one digital device was found to have child pornography images and videos on it, as well as an application utilized to distribute child pornography.
MADERA was placed under arrest and booked at the Barnstable Police Department.
Several digital devices were seized during the search of his home and are being examined as the investigation by Barnstable Police continues.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
