FALL RIVER — The following is a statement from Fall River Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tracy Curley:
“It is with tremendous sadness that we inform our school community of the sudden and unexpected death of a sixth-grade Morton Middle School student following a medical emergency yesterday.
On behalf of everyone at the Fall River Public Schools, our thoughts, heartfelt condolences and support go out to the student’s family and loved ones as they deal with this terrible tragedy.
We know that this unexpected loss will raise questions and concerns, and will elicit emotional responses among our students and throughout our school community. In an effort to ensure students learned of the tragedy from a trusted adult, the news was communicated to families and staff yesterday evening and the news was communicated to students again today during homeroom.
We will make every effort to support our students and staff as needed and will have additional grief counselors readily available to support anyone who may be struggling with this news or who feels personally impacted by this tragedy.
As the family and loved ones grieve, we ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”
