Tyngsborough Police Receive $24,803 State Grant to Improve Traffic Safety

TYNGSBOROUGH — Acting Police Chief Shaun Woods is pleased to share that the Tyngsborough Police Department has been awarded $24,803 in state grant funding to improve road safety.

TYNGSBOROUGH — Acting Police Chief Shaun Woods is pleased to share that the Tyngsborough Police Department has been awarded $24,803 in state grant funding to improve road safety.

The Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded more than $12.4 million in funding through the Municipal Road Safety, State Agency Traffic Safety, and Underserved Communities Traffic Safety Grant Programs.

The Tyngsborough Police Department received funding through the Municipal Road Grant Safety Program. The funding will allow departments to afford road safety initiatives such as traffic safety enforcement, bicyclist and pedestrian safety enforcement, non-enforcement activities such as training or community events, and the purchase of traffic safety equipment or other community safety items such as bike helmets.

Tyngsborough Police will use $16,613 to fund traffic and safety overtime patrols, and $8,189 to purchase traffic safety equipment, such as speed measurement devices and mounted control signs.

“We are grateful to have been awarded the FY 2025 Municipal Road Safety Grant, which will greatly enhance our ability to keep Tyngsborough’s roads safe for all. These funds will allow us to address critical traffic safety concerns through enforcement initiatives, community outreach, and the purchase of essential safety equipment at no cost to residents of Tyngsborough,” said Acting Chief Shaun Woods. “By focusing on impaired driving, distracted driving, and seat belt compliance through campaigns like ‘Click it or Ticket’, and the winter and summer speed enforcement initiatives, we aim to reduce traffic-related incidents and save lives.”

Police will also continue non-enforcement activities such as bike rodeos, the distribution of free bike helmets and free car seats and installations, using other department funds.

Resident with questions regarding the Tyngsborough Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit, or questions about accessing free bicycle helmets or car seats, should contact Traffic Safety Supervisor Sgt. Nathan Abdallah at nabdallah@tyngsboroughma.gov.

“This grant is a valuable resource that will allow us to take a proactive, multi-faceted approach to traffic safety, and we look forward to making our roads safer for residents and visitors alike,” said Acting Chief Woods.
