NEW LONDON — Superintendent John Fortney is pleased to share that Kearsarge Regional Middle School recently welcomed the Colby-Sawyer Men’s Basketball team for the ‘Stay in to Win’ program.
Members of the Colby-Sawyer Men’s Basketball team and coach Dan Kaigler visited Kearsarge Regional Middle School students in the 8-1 Cluster on Sept.24 and members of the 8-2 Cluster on Sept. 26.
During the visit, Colby Sawyer Men’s Basketball spoke with KRMS students about the Stay in to Win program, where college student-athletes visit local schools and share their knowledge about the importance of time management, creating good habits, and study skills to be the best version of themselves.
“This is a great way for our middle school students to see firsthand that dreams do come true. The importance of following your path and creating a journey of success is pretty powerful for any student to hear about and then put into action for themselves,” said KRMS Grade 8 Science Teacher and KRHS Varsity Basketball Coach Nate Camp, who also graduated from Colby-Sawyer College in 1998. “For me, it was an honor and a privilege to play collegiate basketball at Colby-Sawyer College, as I was the first member of my family to attend college. I know firsthand how hard it is to make that transition from high school to collegiate sports, being able to time manage and balance all that is required of you. We talk about that same process (time management and dedication) here with our middle school students, as well as my high school basketball players. The journey is real, so the more prepared and organized we can help make these students the better off they will be in reaching their own goals.”
The program encourages middle school-aged students to get involved in athletics while also maintaining their academics to achieve success.
“This was a wonderful opportunity for our middle school students to interact with collegiate-level student-athletes and ask questions about their journey and hard work to play at Colby Sawyer College,” said Superintendent Fortney. “We would like to thank the Colby Sawyer Men’s Basketball team and Coach Kaigler for their commitment to the community and the education of a younger generation. Here at Kearsarge, we encourage our students to be the best they can be and I am looking forward to watching these students grow in the next chapter of their education whether that be through athletics, academics, or both.”
