TYNGSBOROUGH — The following is a statement from Acting Police Chief Chief Shaun Woods:
“Over the past few weeks, the Tyngsborough Police Department has observed an increase in reports of vandalism and theft of political signs throughout our community.
“I want to remind everyone that these actions are not only unlawful but also deeply counterproductive to the democratic values we hold dear.
“The theft or destruction of any property, including political signs, will not be tolerated. The Tyngsborough Police Department is investigating these thefts and acts of vandalism and will prosecute anyone found to be responsible.
“Our community has always demonstrated resilience and strength, especially when it comes to supporting one another. The freedom to express political opinions is a fundamental right. I believe our community is strong enough to support one another’s right to lawfully express those views — whether we agree with them or not.
“I call upon all residents to remain respectful. Disagreements are natural and healthy, especially during election seasons, but resorting to vandalism or theft is not the answer. Let’s channel our energy toward constructive dialogue and the power of voting, rather than property damage and conflict.
“I expect and hope that we can continue to uphold mutual respect, support each other’s rights, and focus on what truly matters — our families, our friendships, and the values that unite us.
“Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Together, we can ensure that Tyngsborough remains a place where everyone’s opinions are respected, and the rule of law is upheld.”
