TYNGSBOROUGH — Chief Richard Howe reports that the Tyngsborough Police Department arrested and charged a Leominster man with attempted arson of a home.
STEPHEN STAITE, AGE 44, OF LEOMINSTER, was arrested and charged with:
- Attempted Arson of a Dwelling
On Monday, Sept. 23, at approximately 3:38 a.m., Tyngsborough Police were called to a home on Sequoia Drive for a report of a suspicious male in a driveway.
Police arrived to find a man later identified as STAITE with a five-gallon container of gasoline and a backpack outside of the home. Police located a lighter inside the backpack.
Tyngsborough Police were investigating a similar incident at the home on Friday, Sept. 20. Through an initial investigation police determined someone had poured gasoline on a car and the side of the home and unsuccessfully attempted to set a fire.
After an on-scene investigation on Monday, STAITE was placed into custody and charged with attempted arson of a dwelling.
STAITE was arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court, where he was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Tuesday. On Tuesday, STAITE was found to be dangerous and was ordered held without bail until at least January.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
