Wayland Police and Fire Departments Respond to Incident at Loker School

WAYLAND — Police Chief Ed Burman and Fire Chief Neil McPherson report that the Wayland Police and Fire Departments responded to the Loker School for reports of a grenade that was found on the property.

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, at approximately 3:23 p.m., Wayland Police and Fire responded to Loker School, 47 Loker St., for reports of a metal object resembling a grenade that was found by a student.  

Upon arrival, responding officers located the object and set up a perimeter around the school. The school, which was open to students and faculty participating in the after-school program, was immediately evacuated.  

Wayland Police and Fire requested the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad. 

The bomb squad determined that the object was an inert World War II grenade and removed it from the premises.  

There is no danger to the public.  

The incident remains under investigation by Wayland Police.
