READING — Chief David Clark reports that the Reading Police Department arrested and charged a Billerica woman with operating under the influence.
MEGAN MARTIN, AGE 34, of BILLERICA, was arrested and charged with the following:
- OUI Liquor
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Stop at Red Light
- Open Container of Alcohol in Motor Vehicle
- Child Endangerment while Operating Under the Influence (Three Counts)
On Aug. 25, at approximately 9 p.m., Reading Police officers were operating in the area of Main and Salem Streets when they observed a red Toyota Highlander traveling westbound on Salem Street enter the intersection by Main Street without stopping at the red light.
Officers activated their emergency lights and stopped the Toyota on Lowell Street.
While speaking with the driver, determined to be MARTIN, officers observed three children in the back seat.
A preliminary investigation, including a field sobriety test, determined that MARTIN was operating under the influence. MARTIN’s blood alcohol level was measured at .25, more than three times the legal limit.
All three children were unharmed and released into the care of a family member.
A search of MARTIN’s vehicle by officers discovered several open containers of alcohol.
MARTIN was arrested without incident and arraigned in Woburn District Court Aug. 26.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
