ACTON — Chief James Cogan is pleased to report that the Acton Police Department and the Acton DEI Office toured the community in an ice cream truck from Juniper Farms and shared hundreds of ice creams as part of Cone with a Cop, an event meant to send off students heading back to school while also strengthening ties between Acton Police and community members.

Conducted in partnership with the Town of Acton’s DEI Office, this was the second year that Acton Police participated in Cone with a Cop. This year they shared hundreds of ice cream cones at 10 locations in town from a Juniper Farms ice cream truck, and added several locations including the migrant shelter.

Juniper Farms provided the ice cream.

“It was wonderful to see so many children and community members coming out and engaging with each other and the Police Department,” said DEI Director Wanjiku Gachugi.

“We had another successful event this year as we visited various locations throughout the Town,” said Deputy Chief Douglas Sturniolo. “This was a great opportunity for the Police Department to engage with children, caretakers, and community members.  It was a perfect day for ice cream and it was great to see all the smiles and everyone having a good time.  We are looking forward to hosting the event again next year.”

Cone with a Cop is one of several community-focused events that Acton Police participate in throughout the year. Other events include Coffee with a Cop, National Night Out, Citizens Police Academy, Youth Police Academy, Trunk or Treat, Faith and Blue, Special Olympics, and Touch a Truck.

“We have a focus on community policing at the Acton Police Department, and we enjoy seeking out ways to connect with those we serve,” said Chief Cogan. “Thank you to Juniper Farms for helping make this event possible, and to all those who came out for conversations, ice cream, and relationship building.”
