TYNGSBOROUGH — Chief Richard Howe reports that the Tyngsborough Police Department is inviting the community to attend the town’s inaugural Overdose Awareness Vigil: Light the Night.

WHEN:

Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Old Town Hall, 10 Kendall Road, Tyngsborough

WHAT:

The Tyngsborough Police Department invites the community to the inaugural Overdose Awareness Vigil: Light the Night at Old Town Hall.

This event will honor those lost to overdoses, support survivors, and raise awareness about substance use disorder in the community.

The vigil will feature touching speeches, live music, remembrance activities, and an
opportunity for communal reflection. District Attorney Marian Ryan will deliver a keynote address.

Following this, a remembrance speaker will courageously share their personal
journey and loss. Live music will create a reflective atmosphere for attendees.

Remembrance activities will include a solemn reading of names, and a touching slideshow dedicated to cherished loved ones affected by substance use disorder.

Participants are invited to submit names for the reading or photos for the slideshow by emailing Regional Public Health Specialist Siobhan LaFreniere at slafreniere@tewksbury-ma.gov.

Purple flags will be provided by the Health Department for attendees to inscribe names, symbolizing remembrance and solidarity.

Light refreshments, including water, coffee, and cookies, will be provided, fostering an atmosphere of warmth and solidarity.

“Join us as we come together to honor, remember, and support,” said Regional Public Health Nurse Ashley Pavlakos.

“I hope the community will come together to offer support and remembrance of those lost to substance abuse when we come together for the first time at this event,” said Chief Howe. “Most families have been affected by substance abuse, and by coming together we hope that we can honor those lost, but also support survivors and raise awareness of this national epidemic.”
