BOURNE — Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou is pleased to announce that Ellen McLaughlin has been appointed as the new Bourndale Elementary School assistant principal and pre-K coordinator.

McLaughlin began the position on July 17. She will bring her licensed therapy dog, a golden retriever named Shamrock, to Bournedale Elementary School to serve as a positive support system for students in need.

McLaughlin previously served as a special education coordinator and assistant principal at the Enoch Cobb Early Learning Center for Barnstable Public Schools. Prior to this role, McLaughlin served three years as the assistant principal at Cedar Elementary School for Hanover Public Schools. She also served six years as a kindergarten teacher and 15 years as a special education preschool teacher for Plymouth Public Schools.

“Mrs. Mc Laughlin emerged as an impressive candidate in our search that involved so many BPS stakeholders including teachers and parents,” said Superintendent Quinlan-Zhou. “She brings expertise in leadership and inclusivity that will be valuable to our team, and her sustained teaching experience with early learners is a perfect fit for Bournedale Elementary.”

McLaughlin holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Education from Marist College and a master’s degree in education in Early Childhood Education from Bridgewater State University, where she also participated in an Educational Leadership Licensure program.

“Stepping into my new position for Bournedale Elementary has been amazing,” said Assistant Principal McLaughlin. “The students and faculty here are truly wonderful. With the help of my community, I know I can bring great new opportunities to the district.”
