BRIDGEWATER– Town Manager Michael Dutton announces that the Town of Bridgewater will be hosting a public information session to discuss traffic and pedestrian improvements in the Central Square area on Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Moakley Center at Bridgewater State University.

The session is free to attend and is open to non-Bridgewater residents. Attendees can RSVP here. Registration is required.

There has been a great deal of progress as a result of the Vision to Reality initiative, since its launch in June 2023. The multifaceted project includes plans for the preservation of the historic character of the downtown, revitalization of underutilized downtown properties, increased and improved connectivity between downtown and the surrounding area, promotion of transit-oriented-development (TOD), support for existing businesses and ways to attract new businesses.

“While the Central Square area presents numerous engineering challenges, we must begin the implementation of the Vision to Reality project and move past the study phase,” said Robert Rulli, Director of the Bridgewater Office of Community and Economic Development. “We value the feedback from our numerous stakeholders and want this project to be embraced by our community.”

‘The Town has assembled a skilled team of traffic engineers, urban planners and landscape architects led by Nitsch Engineering. In addition to Nitsch, the team includes Utile with their focus on Urban Planning & Community Engagement, Copley Wolff as landscape architects, and Speck Dempsey, whose principal Jeff Speck is an internationally-recognized city planner, urbanist, author and expert on walkable downtowns.

Jeff Speck will share opportunities for improvement for the downtown, and will cite examples of communities similar to Bridgewater that have made transformative changes in improving their downtowns, making them attractive destinations for visitors.

The public is invited to share feedback, thoughts and concerns about the initial concept designs of the project at this session.
