CANTON – Town Administrator Charles Doody and Finance Director Randy Scollins are pleased to share that the Town of Canton has been awarded for the 18th straight year for its organization and transparency in municipal government financial reporting.
In receiving its 18th straight Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), the Town of Canton ranks among the best organized government agencies for its finances and financial reporting. The most recent award was given for Canton’s Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
“The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our finance department and our audit firm,” Town Administrator Doody said. “Our collective commitment to transparency, accuracy and accountability has been instrumental in achieving this honor. Thank you to GFOA for your continued recognition of our hard work.”
The certificate is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant achievement by the Town of Canton. The award recognizes municipalities that meet or exceed national standards for financial reporting. These standards include demonstrating a spirit of full disclosure and motivating potential users to read the ACFR.
“The report has been judged by an impartial panel assembled by GFOA to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the report, which can be found on the Finance Dept home page listed as “FY ’23 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report,” said Finance Director Scollins.
The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare comprehensive financial reports that are transparent and offer full disclosure while recognizing individual governments that achieve this goal.
