Town of Acton Shares Update on Kelley’s Corner Construction Project

ACTON — Town Manager John S. Mangiaratti shares that MassDOT has made significant progress in the ongoing Kelley’s Corner improvement project and is nearing completion of several important benchmarks.

Kelley’s Corner is a mixed-use area at the intersection of Route 27/Main Street and Route 111/Massachusetts Avenue. It was first identified as an area in need of improvement in the 1970s.

The project, which began in the fall of 2022, will install new traffic signals, crosswalks, bicycle lanes, roadways, sidewalks, landscaping, pedestrian amenities and pedestrian lighting. This will improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists, increase stormwater management, and reduce traffic congestion.

To date, the Acton Water District main replacement is almost complete, as well as the upgraded drainage systems and retaining walls.

Next steps include paving the road to accommodate the broadening of roadways and addition of bike lanes. Granite curbs will also be added to the new sidewalks in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance guidelines.

Residents should expect intermittent closures of Charter Road during paving over the next week.

For more construction updates, project information and possible detours, visit the project site here. Any questions should be directed to Project Manager Kristen Guichard at planning@actonma.gov

The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025.
