GROVELAND — Chief Jefferey Gillen is pleased to share that Officer Chris L’Italien has been promoted to Sergeant.

Sgt. L’Italien was promoted on July 1.

He joined the department in 2015 as a Reserve Officer and Dispatcher, following his graduation from the MLETA Reserve/Intermittent Police Academy. He joined the department as a full-time officer in 2017 after graduating from the Northern Essex Community College (NECC) Methuen Police Academy.

In 2022, Sgt. L’Italien received a Distinguished Service Ribbon from Groveland Police for his role and lifesaving actions during a fatal fire at the Groveland Manor Apartments. The Distinguished Service Ribbon has only been given to one other officer since 2017.

“I am proud of Sgt. L’Italien’s dedication to our community and wish him the best of luck in his new role at the department,” said Chief Gillen. “He has truly made his mark here in Groveland and I am confident in his ability to take on this new challenge. I look forward to watching him succeed and grow in this next chapter of his career.”
