BARNSTABLE — Superintendent Sara Ahern and Director of Food Services Dave Badot are pleased to announce that Barnstable Public Schools will once again be providing remote meal service through the State’s Summer Eats program.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federally-funded program from the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). In Massachusetts, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) administers the SFSP.
The Project Bread Summer Eats program will supply promotional materials for Barnstable Public Schools’ Remote Meal Service.
The program is offered Monday through Friday throughout the summer from July 1 to Aug. 23. Children 18 years old and younger are eligible to receive meals. Barnstable residency is not required and no I.D. is needed. Parents may not pick up meals for students, students are required to be present. Meals will be available in the rear of each location (watch for signs) during serving times.
All serving locations will be open from 8:30-9:30 a.m. for breakfast and 11 a.m.-12 p.m. for lunch. Residents will be able to pick up meals at the following locations:
- July 1 through Aug. 18 at Barnstable High School, 744 W Main St, Hyannis
- July 1 through Aug. 23 at Barnstable West Barnstable Elementary School, 2463 Main St, West Barnstable
- July 1 through Aug. 23 at Barnstable Intermediate School, 895 Falmouth Road, Hyannis
- July 1 through Aug. 23 at Barnstable United Elementary School, 730 Ost. – W. Barnstable Road, Marstons Mills
Additionally, Barnstable Public Schools will be providing free breakfast and lunch for students enrolled in the 21st Century Program and the Jumpstart program running this summer at Hyannis West.
Hyannis West will only be offering meals to students who are enrolled in these programs. Students outside of these programs who are in need of meals are encouraged to visit one of the other four open locations.

It is estimated that more than half of the students who receive free meals at school do not access the program during the summer months. They are also supportive by providing grants for equipment and other needs that these programs incur.
