BARRY ENGLISH, AGE 38 of NASHUA, N.H., was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery

On Monday, June 24 at approximately 9:42 a.m. Newport Police responded to Passumpsic Savings Bank, 1 Gardner St., for a report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with bank staff, who observed the suspect walk up to the bank teller and pass a note to them demanding large bills. The suspect verbally threatened staff with a firearm, however the firearm was not brandished.

The suspect then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and was seen leaving in a black BMW sedan with New Hampshire license plates.

As a result of a subsequent investigation, ENGLISH was identified as a suspect and police departments across the region were notified to be on the lookout for him.

On Monday afternoon, New Hampshire State Police located the suspect’s vehicle traveling on Route I-93. ENGLISH led New Hampshire State police on a pursuit before he was stopped in Plymouth, New Hampshire and taken into custody.

Newport Police would like to thank residents and community members who sent information and helpful tips to the department which helped identify the individual in question.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
