BOURNE — Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou and Principal Christine Borning are proud to announce that Bourne Middle School student Kyla Reekie was awarded second place in the Middle School Monologue Writing Contest sponsored by the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild (METG).

“We are very proud of Kyla’s accomplishment. This award is a testament to her creativity and dedication to the dramatic arts,” said Superintendent Quinlan-Zhou. “All students should have access to a vibrant visual and performing arts curriculum. This is one reason why we are proud to offer drama class and after-school arts-based programs to our middle school students.”

Kyla’s monologue was titled “What’s Wrong?” and is from the perspective of a girl who didn’t understand why she was so unliked by somebody. She took part in a special METG event on May 29 where winners read their winning monologues.

The METG Monologue Writing Contest is open to middle and high school students in Grades 5-12. Submissions are read and judged by professional, working playwrights.
