MANSFIELD – Superintendent Teresa Murphy and Principal Russ Booth are pleased to announce the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Mansfield High School Class of 2024.
The valedictorian for the graduating class is Dhruv Jain and the salutatorian is Yuv Sakhalkar.
Dhruv Jain
“It is my pleasure to introduce to you the Valedictorian for the Class of 2024: Dhruv Jain,” said Superintendent Murphy. “Dhruv is an exceptional young man with an outstanding work ethic and desire to learn. He is always looking for ways to challenge himself, help others and expand his knowledge in all areas of life.”
Throughout Jain’s tenure at MHS, he has challenged himself each year by taking the most rigorous and demanding course load possible. His hard work and dedication have earned him induction into the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Jain has earned numerous accolades throughout his high school career including, but not limited to, being a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, an AP Scholar with Distinction, receiving the Harvard Book Award and being a recipient of the Golden Hornet Award each year.
Outside of the classroom, Jain is a member of various clubs and activities. He is an active member of the band, playing marimba in the winter percussion ensemble and marching band, and saxophone in the concert band. He was also a section leader for the front ensemble last year. Additionally, Jain is co-captain of the math team, president of the Computer Science club, a member of the Varsity Tennis Team, and a member of the High School Quiz Show, where he was a state championship finalist.
Jain also extends his time to help the community by being a member of the DEI Committee and starting his own summer camp to teach middle school students Python. Furthermore, Jain helps a small organization called the Himalayan Impact Trust that works to plant trees and provide career counseling to children in rural India. He not only created their website but also helped with fundraising. This past summer, Jain conducted research which was published in the National High School Journal of Science and presented his research at the Junior Science Humanities Symposium for Southern New England. In his free time, Jain enjoys playing piano, basketball, tennis and ping pong. He also loves going on road trips and traveling to new places.
In the fall, Jain will attend the University of Southern California where he intends to pursue a combined major in Computer Science and Business Administration. As a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Jain received USC’s Presidential Scholarship and is participating in the Thematic Option Honors Program.
Yuv Sakhalkar
“It is my pleasure to introduce to you the salutatorian of the Class of 2024: Yuv Sakhalkar,” said Superintendent Murphy. “Yuv has left a lasting impression on the Mansfield community. He is a leader in every sense of the word. He is kind, helpful and well-respected by staff and students. I am certain that Yuv’s diligence, drive, determination and competitive spirit will continue to serve him well as he takes on this next chapter of his life.”
Sakhalkar takes a rigorous course load of predominantly Advanced Placement and Honors level courses. He is consistently seeking opportunities to learn outside of the classroom. Sakhalkar independently studied AP Economics and successfully completed the exam; he was selected to attend a Bioengineering Summer Program at Harvard University; and he completed an internship last summer gaining hands-on experience at Mass General Hospital. Sakhalkar was inducted into the National Honor Society due to his high marks and commitment to community service.
Sakhalkar has been an active member of Mansfield High School and the Mansfield community, committing time to athletics, clubs and community service. One of his greatest passions is baseball; he pitches and plays third base for the varsity baseball team, in addition to playing many other sports recreationally. Sakhalkar is the co-founder of the MHS ping pong club, and co-founder of an entrepreneurial start-up with the guidance of TiE Young Entrepreneurship Academy. Sakhalkar also helped the High School Quiz Show team make it to the State Championship last year. In addition to all of his extracurricular activities, he is an incredible son and brother; his family means the world to him.
Next fall, he will be attending the School of Arts and Sciences at Tufts University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry.
