BURLINGTON — Chief Thomas Browne reports that the Burlington Police Department is currently investigating an alleged phone threat made to Marshall Simonds Middle School.

On Friday, May 24, at approximately 2:55 p.m., Burlington Police and Burlington Public Schools were made aware of a threat made toward Marshall Simonds Middle School. The anonymous caller expressed an intent to do harm at the school on Tuesday, May 28.

School Resource Officer Dominic Calicchio was informed immediately, and Burlington Police are working closely with Burlington Public Schools to determine the origin of the call.

As a result of an initial assessment, and in conjunction with Burlington Public Schools, Burlington Police does not believe the threat to be credible at this time.

“The safety of our students and school community is our first priority. We take any potential threat extremely seriously,” Burlington Public Schools Superintendent Eric Conti said. “We are working closely with Burlington Police and thank them for their quick response.”

Out of an abundance of caution, Burlington Police will provide an increased presence at schools on Tuesday.

“Safety at schools is of utmost importance to Burlington Police, and we will continue to investigate this incident and provide any updates as they arise,” Burlington Police Capt. Daniel Hanafin said.
