DUBLIN — Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Nicole Pease are pleased to share that Dublin Consolidated School students in Grade 3 culminated their study of birds by building birdhouses, with the help of four community volunteers.

Dale Gable, Jerry Branch, Harry Wolhandler, and Bill Gurney visited DCS on May 15 to help students with the birdhouses.

The four volunteers prepped the pieces for the houses, and students assembled them with their assistance.

The birdhouse project served as a grand finale to cap off the students’ study of birds. The study focused on adaptations, social interactions, and group behavior, which connect to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

The students were extremely proud of their work.

One student remarked: “This is the best day ever. I want to take woodworking now in high school! Can we do this every day?”

Upon completion, students were able to bring their birdhouses home.

“Thank you to Dale, Jerry, Bill, and Harry for coming out to DCS and helping our students with this project,” said Principal Pease. “It was amazing to see their enthusiasm; they enjoyed this activity very much! We hope to continue to provide these experiences to complement our curriculum moving forward.”
