ATTLEBORO — Superintendent David A. Sawyer and Principal Kate Campbell are pleased to share that the Attleboro High School Black Student Alliance (BSA) recently hosted a successful Multicultural Festival.
The festival was held for the third year on April 24. A total of 128 students participated, representing 32 cultures and two clubs.
The event has taken different forms since it began, with this version being the most elaborate edition yet. Throughout the day, students and staff attended activities such as informational tables, fashion shows, dances, food tastings and more. All of the presentations were created by students from different clubs who volunteered to represent their various cultures.
BSA students began organizing the event in September, and collaborated with teachers and administrators to plan the day.
The BSA student leadership team that coordinated the festival included:
- President Flojona Sanon
- Vice President Akeem Kouassi
- Event Coordinator and Treasurer Myrlaine Phillipe
- Event Coordinator and Social Media Manager Nyla Eweka
- Secretary Jeremiah Desgranges
- The Voice Jordany Gachette
The group is advised by English teacher Danielle China Bone.
“The positivity and excitement to learn more about each other and who we are as a school community was extremely impressive,” Principal Campbell said. “Together, students and staff at AHS are working hard to build our school into a place of real-world learning and growing. Student-organized events like this are what makes that experience possible.”
“The Multicultural Festival was a wonderful opportunity for our students and staff to immerse themselves in their peers’ cultures,” Superintendent Sawyer said. “The BSA students organized a successful event that created an inclusive and welcoming environment for the AHS community to celebrate their identities.”
