MEDWAY — Principal John Murray is pleased to share that Medway High School has been named a spring 2024 Innovation Career Pathways (ICP) designee by the Healey-Driscoll Administration.
The new Pathway, in Business and Finance, is Medway High School’s third Innovation Pathway designation. The school currently offers the Healthcare & Social Assistance and Information Technology Pathways.
Innovation Career Pathways provide students with applied learning experience in high-demand industries such as Advanced Manufacturing, Information Technology, Environmental and Life Sciences, Health Care and Social Assistance, Business and Finance and Clean Energy. ICPs offer personal and professional development, workplace experience, industry-recognized credentials, field trips, mentorship opportunities and more, giving participating students insight into various career options and helping them develop knowledge and skills related to their chosen field of study before graduation.
Over the course of their high school experience, students will take a minimum of two technical courses, two advanced courses and a series of seminars related to their Pathways. The curriculum includes courses such as Principles of Business, Marketing, & Finance (Online), Marketing Foundations (Online), Economics/AP Economics, Statistics/AP Statistics, and Financial Literacy.
Seniors culminate their pathway experience with either a capstone project or an internship, applying their learning to real-world scenarios. This strategic collaboration with Charles River Bank provides students with additional learning opportunities, mentorship, and potential internships. Each Innovation Pathways program is supported by grant funding from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
In addition to Pathway-specific courses, participating students meet monthly to review professional skills like using LinkedIn, creating a resume and self-advocacy in the workplace. They are able to hear from professionals in related fields, as well as get certifications and industry credentials such as CPR, Computer Aided Design and OSHA.
Providing Pathways enables students to explore high-demand careers they may want to pursue at no cost while strengthening workforce pipelines to meet the needs of employers in those industries.
“It’s been great to see our Innovation Career Pathways expand and evolve over the past couple of years, and we are grateful to receive a third designation to offer these distinctive, pre-career opportunities to more students,” Principal Murray said.
Thirty-six high schools statewide were awarded designations by the Healey-Driscoll Administration in April. Each awarded school offers education in one or more Innovation Career Pathways. With the new designations, the Healey-Driscoll Administration reports that approximately 8,000 students will be enrolled in one or more of the 226 Innovation Career Pathways.
