CANTON — Town Administrator Charles Doody is providing the following update on the Town’s independent audit of the Canton Police Department.
The November 2023 Special Town Meeting authorized $200,000 in funding to contract with an independent consulting firm to complete an administrative, policy, procedures and compliance review of the Canton Police Department.
The Town has recently formed a Procurement Committee to coordinate the audit process. Committee members include Bob McCarthy, John Kelly, Dr. Dan Muse, Kathleen Howley and David Clough. The members of this committee were appointed in accordance with the approved Special Town Meeting article.
The first step in the process will be to assemble a Scope of Services for the audit. A Request for Proposals (RFP) will then be shared to seek proposals from firms that perform the services outlined in the Scope of Services. Committee members will review the submitted proposals and schedule interviews with the top selection of firms. A majority vote by the Committee will determine a finalist before cost estimates are reviewed and a contract is created.
The Committee will meet on April 29, May 16 and June 12. All meetings are public and will be held at 7 p.m. in the Salah Room at Town Hall, 801 Washington St. Each meeting will also be televised on Canton Community Television.
“Our goal is to facilitate an independent review, as was favored by Special Town Meeting voters,” Town Administrator Doody said. “We are committed to ensuring a prompt yet careful selection process, and will provide updates on the selection process as it progresses.”
It is expected that the audit will begin this summer.
