Penn Brook Elementary Students Participate in Interactive Arboriculture Learning Program

GEORGETOWN – Superintendent Margo Ferrick and Principal Collin MacDonald are pleased to share that Penn Brook Elementary School kindergarten students recently participated in an interactive program presented by Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School students and staff.

Penn Brook alum Emma Morrissey reached out to Jessica McPhail, her former Kindergarten teacher, and asked if her class would be interested in learning about Essex Tech’s arboriculture program. McPhail said yes.

Morrissey is currently studying arboriculture at Essex Tech. Arboriculture is the cultivation, management, and study of individual trees, shrubs, and other woody plants.

As part of the program, teachers, students, and staff from Essex Tech came to the elementary school and taught students about the field. Students read a story and collaborated on coloring a picture of a tree. Students also met the Essex Tech Hawk, the school’s beloved mascot.

“We are so thankful for students like Emma who want to share their passion for knowledge with our younger students,” said Principal MacDonald. “This was a great opportunity for our students to learn about something new, and we are so grateful to have been able to provide this experience.”

“Thank you to the staff at Essex Tech, which made this a valuable learning experience for kindergarteners,” Superintendent Ferrick said.
