ENFIELD — Superintendent Amanda Isabelle is pleased to share that Jody Viereck has been appointed as the new principal of Canaan Elementary School.
Viereck brings 30 years of extensive experience in teaching, technology, and educational leadership focusing on early childhood and elementary education to her new role in the Mascoma Valley School District.
Hailing from New Jersey, Viereck has served as an adjunct professor at Rowan University, where she coached interns and cooperating teachers during phases of student teaching and actively engaged in professional development opportunities to enhance her teaching skills and stay current in the field.
Viereck has taught math and science to elementary students, and served as a Coordinator of Student Services, Technology, and Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) for six years, where she developed her leadership skills.
Viereck believes that leadership is not something imposed on others, but a collaborative effort to improve the experience of all involved. She intends to use her experiences to be a visible role model in the school, create positive change through collaboration and understanding the existing school culture, and promote an anti-bullying atmosphere by empowering students to make a difference.
“We are excited to welcome Jody to our District as the new Principal of Canaan Elementary School,” said Superintendent Isabelle. “We believe that her vast experience working in elementary education and her educational philosophy will help to make a positive impact on our school community. Welcome to Mascoma!”
Viereck earned her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Management, and Policy from Seton Hall University in 2015 and holds several certifications as a school administrator, principal/assistant principal, supervisor, and elementary teacher.
