MEDWAY — Superintendent Armand Pires and Medway High School Principal John Murray are pleased to share that a record number of Medway High School students performed in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Festival ensembles on March 23 at Boston Symphony Hall.
The Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) All-State Festival showcases the highest-achieving high school musicians in the Commonwealth. With over 100 participating schools, students came together to perform in chorus, jazz band, orchestral and symphonic band ensembles.
In November, Medway students auditioned and gained acceptance into the Central Districts Massachusetts Music Association (CDMMEA) senior festival ensembles. Due to their qualifying scores, these students received recommendations to audition for the All-State festival.
“On behalf of the Medway community, I want to congratulate our students on this significant accomplishment,” Superintendent Armand Pires said. “Their performance speaks volumes to the outstanding music education program at Medway High School.”
Seniors Caitlin MacNeil, Timmy Reda, Matt Shawlis and junior Nora Keavany participated in the chorus and senior William George played clarinet in the symphonic band. Renowned conductors lead each ensemble, with Dr. Wendy Moy conducting the choir and Eric LaPrade conducting the symphonic band.
Before the performance at Boston Symphony Hall, musicians participated in a full day of intensive rehearsals in Worcester at Mechanics Hall on March 22.
“The students’ dedication to their art was palpable this weekend,” Ashley Nelson-Oneschuk, Medway High School’s choir director said. “They showcased exceptional musical abilities.”
Medway High School Band Director Amanda Webster said, “Our musicians represented the Medway Music Department remarkably. They should be proud of their commitment to creating beautiful music and we continue to look forward to witnessing their success.”
