LITTLETON — Superintendent Kelly Clenchy would like to share that Littleton students in the District’s Personalized Academic and Comprehensive Education (PACE) program have been participating in many vocational opportunities this year, including delivering meals and smiles to those in need in partnership with Meals on Wheels and the Littleton Council on Aging (COA).
Littleton PACE participants help make lunch deliveries every week to people throughout the community through Meals on Wheels.
The PACE program has partnered with Meals on Wheels and the Littleton COA for many years, and the students love it. The meal deliveries allow students to meet and greet different people in the community and help them build their teamwork skills by working side by side with other COA staff.
The COA also encourages students to enjoy lunch with staff members, which helps with their social and conversational skills as well as building community connections.
During the holiday season, the students create holiday crafts, cookies, and/or treats to include in the deliveries that put a smile on every face.
This April, students were tasked with the job of making centerpieces for the COA’s spaghetti dinner. The students had a budget, picked out the materials at Dollar Tree, and assembled the centerpieces.
“I’ve been working with the students for several years. They help me deliver hot meals to home-bound clients in our town,” said David M. Pillitteri, Meals on Wheels volunteer. “I really enjoy getting to know them and learning about each of their unique personalities.”
The PACE Partnerships series features stories surrounding the community partnerships of Littleton’s Transition Program, in recognition of Autism Awareness Month.
